Abstract

The apparatus comprises two series-connected pumps e.g. gear pumps 2, 4, for delivering fluid such as fuel oil, from a reservoir (through a line 7) to a utilization device 37 in two stages. A pressure regulator 10 has pressure chambers 14, 15 communicating with an intermediate chamber 8 and an output line 11 through a valve 32. A pressure- limiting device 31 also connected to the intermediate chamber so that the pressure in the intermediate chamber is independent of the pressure at the reservoir or elsewhere on the suction side of the first pump. The pressure- limiting device returns excess fluid from the first pump to the reservoir via a line 38. The reservoir can therefore be at any desired height with respect to the first pump. The valve 32 connects the output line to the reservoir when a valve 35 closes. <IMAGE>
