Abstract

1,127,202. Making boxes. LANGSTON CO. March 15, 1966 [April 9, 1965], No.11294/66. Heading B5D. A method of making a paperboard box from a blank comprises mechanically applying a tape strip to a first edge of a moving flat blank with the tape strip projecting over said edge, folding the moving blank to present the taped edge to a second edge of the blank with the projecting portion of the tape strip overlapping the second edge, and securing the tape strip 36 to the second edge to form a foldable connection between the first and second blank edges 16, 18, Fig. 6. The tape is fed from a reel through cutters (56, Fig. 7 not shown), and moistening device (62) which moistens half the tape width, to the blank (10) moving on a belt. The projecting part of the tape is then moistened by a further moistening device (72) before folding. The tape may be on the inside of the box and the sealing of the tape to second edge may be deferred until the folded blank is under the control of the squaring equipment by bending the projecting portion of the tape out of the plane of the blank edges during the moistening of said portion.
