Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain optical fiber resistant to radiation, which is suitably used in such environments as atomic power plants, because it has excellent resistance to radiation and is effective in long wave-length zone, by irradiating an optical fiber having the quartz core of high purity with a specific dose of radiation. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber which is composed of the quartz glass core of less than 1ppm OH concentration, and the F-doped quartz glass clad is made by drawing lines according to the VAD method. Then, the optical fiber is irradiated with a radiation such as gamma rays of 10<5>-10<6>R/Hr. dose for 2-5min to give the subject optical fiber resistant to radiation.
