Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the transmission efficiency of infrared rays by using the glass mainly containing Se, Ge, Sb for the core part and using the glass of a Ge content lower than that of the core part for the clad part. CONSTITUTION:The core part glass of the compounding of Se 57-89mol%, Sb 5-25mol%, Ge 10-32mol% is made in the production of the optical fiber for infrared ray transmission for power transmission for various measurments, CO2 gas laser light transmission, etc. On the other hand, the clad glass containing Se, Sb, Ge of Ge content less by 0.5-6mol% than the core part glass is made and these are spun at about 600 deg.C by using quartz double crucibles, whereby the fiber of an outside diameter about 200mu is made. In this way, the efficient transmission of infrared rays of 5-11mu wavelengths is made possible.
