Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare a healthy protoplast of seaweeds usable for cell fusion, by treating algal bodies of seaweeds with an enzyme collected from mid-gut gland of a mollusk belonging to the genus Aplysia. CONSTITUTION:Seaweeds belonging to the genus Meristotheca or Gracilaria are subjected to ultrasonic cleaning, sterilization treatment using a solution of an antibiotic substance, then fragmented and dipped in an enzymic solution collected from a mid-gut gland of a mollusk belonging to the genus Aplysia collected from the natural world and treated at pH5.8-6.4 under 1,200-1,400mOsm osmotic pressure to digest cell walls of the algal bodies and form the aimed protoplast.
