Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide good C/N in short wavelength recording and reproduction over a wide frequency range by providing granular projections based on the oligomer deposited from a plasma-polymerized layer on a magnetic recording layer consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed via the plasma- polymerized layer on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The plasma-polymerized layer 2 is formed on the substrate 1 consisting of a high-polymer film and the granular oligomer 3 is deposited and dispersed in the plasma-polymerized layer 2 and the upper parts thereof project from the plasma-polymerized layer 2. The thin ferromagnetic metallic film 4 consisting of Co-Ni, Co-Cr, Co-Ni-O, Co-Cr-Nb, etc., is laminated thereon and the granular projections 4a based on the projection of the oligomer 3 are formed on the surface thereof. The uniformity and durability of the magnetic recording layer are improved by the granular projections in the uniformly dispersed state and the effect of improving the adhesive strength between the oligomer and the thin ferromagnetic metallic film and above all, the noises in the short wavelength range are improved and, therefore, the C/N in the wide frequency range is improved as well.
