Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain the Curie temp. of a recording layer at an adequate value while maintaining excellent magnetic characteristics by using Tb and Te as essential components and incorporating B and H therein to form the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:A 1st protective layer 12, the recording layer 13, the 2nd protective layer 14 and a reflecting layer 15 are formed in this order on a substrate 11. This recording layer 13 has unaxial magnetic anisotropy, consists essentially of Tb and Te and contains B and H. The Curie temp. is thereby maintained at 180-220 deg.C. The C/N of a reproduction signal is thus enhanced while the advantages of the thin TbFe alloy film are maintained. In addition, environmental resistance is improved.
