Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent mechanical collision by setting the relation of position between a recording medium and an optical system in such a way that a face deflecting position of the recording medium is brought respectively to the outside and the inside of the moving part of the optical system and the inside of the moving range of the optical spot. CONSTITUTION:A disk 1 is placed on a turntable 2 to be driven by a disk motor 3. On the other hand, the light radiated from an LD 4 forms a spot on the disk via a collimator lens 5, a prism 6, a PBS 7, a lambda/4 plate 8 and a condenser lens 9. The optical path and the lens 9 when the position of the lens 9 is closest and remotest to/from a recording medium 1a are shown respectively in solid lines and dotted lines, and the part in-between is respectively a moving range (e), (h) of the lens 9 (optical spot). The face deflecting position of the disk 1 by the driven disk 1 is designed to the outside of the position (e) (preventing collision between the lens 9 and protecting layer 1b) and to the inside of the position (h) (recording is to be enabled).
