Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve optical transmission efficiency and to obtain a composition which is hard to be broken by a method wherein a flexible optical coupling member is pressed and held between an end of an optical transmission line and a semiconductor element. CONSTITUTION:A silicone resin hemisphere 3 is pressed against a photodetecting surface 11 of a photo-thyristor substrate 1. The silicone resin is hardened easily without deteriorating the flexibility at an end 41 of an optical fiber. When the optical fiber which has the resin 3 at its end is pressed against the photodetecting surface, a region in which loss of the light is not reduced is obtained. With above configuration, manufacturing of the device is easy and a damage of a photodetecting surface of the optical fiber is eliminated, so that an optical semiconductor device with high efficiency of optical-coupling can be obtained.
