Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high purity, by adding water to a sulfonation mass of metal-diaminobenzene, sagging the solution at 120W150°C, followed by subjecting disulfonic acid prepared as a by-product to demonosulfonation.
CONSTITUTION: In direct sulfonation of meta-diaminobenzene, water is added to a sulfonation mass, and disulfonic acid is desulfonated by heating the solution at 120W150°C, so that disulfonic acid is converted into the desired compound. The amount of water added to the reaction mass is an amount to give a sulfuric acid concentration in the reaction mass of 60W90wt%, preferably 70W85wt%. A solution of diaminobenzene in sulfuric acid in an amount 5 times as heavy as or more than that of diaminobenzene is used as the sulfonation mass. 65wt% fuming sulfuric acid is used as the sulfonating agent.
