Abstract

PURPOSE: To dry and burn moist refuse having a low calorific value efficiently in a moist refuse incinerator, by feeding a mixture gas of high-temperature combustion gas and air to a drying fire grate of the incinerator.
CONSTITUTION: In case of incinerating ordinary refuse, the air from a blower 16 is wholly supplied to an air preheater 11, and the air thus preheated is then supplied to fire grates 3, 4, 5, 6 for incinerating the refuse. Combustion gas is carried to the air preheater 11 and a gas cooler 12, and then discharged into the atmosphere. During the above while, dampers 22, 23, 27 are kept closed. In case of incinerating moist refuse, on the other hand, air from the blower 16 is supplied separately to the preheater 11 and a mixer 21, with a damper 26 being closed, dampers 22, 23 being opened and the openings of the dampers 22, 29 being controlled to appropriate degrees, and high-temperature combustion gas extracted from a downstream or upstream parts of the mixer 21 is mixed with air. The mixture gas thus obtained is supplied to the fire grate 3 via a mixture-gas supply pipe 24 and a drying hopper 7 for drying the refuse.
