Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the reliability of action of a pedal, by discharging a large amount of working liquid from a small-diameter cylinder chamber and a large-diameter cylinder chamber at the initial stage of braking operation and discharging working liquid only from the small-diameter cylinder chamber after the pressure of liquid has reached a prescribed level.
CONSTITUTION: When braking action is caused, pistons 4, 8 are moved leftward and a second chamber 12 and a reservoir 23 are disconnected from each other so that liquid in the chamber 12 flows into a third chamber 13 and is supplied together with that in the third chamber 13 to the actuator of a brake. At that time, the liquid pressure in the second chamber 12 rises but an annular seal member for connection and disconnection with a first chamber 11 is opened and closed so that the liquid pressure is kept at an almost constant level predetermined by a spring 19. For that reason, the moving force of the piston 4 does not increase even if the liquid pressure in the chamber 12 rises. When the piston 4 is moved leftward further, the other piston 8 comes into contact with the step of a cylinder so that the piston 8 stops moving leftward but only the piston 4 moves leftward while compressing springs 16, 19. As a result, the brake is actuated. At that time, a seal 20 is opened to connect the second chamber 12 to the reservoir 23 through the first chamber 11.
