Abstract
PURPOSE: To generate a clean ozonized gas exerting no unfavorable influence on a reaction treating apparatus with high reliability by coating at least the silent discharge regions of a high voltage electrode and a grounded electrode with glass.
CONSTITUTION: A high voltage electrode 14 made of carbon steel pipe or chromium steel pipe in an ozone generating tube 4 has one end provided with an inserted contact maker 6 connected to a power source and the other end sealed by an end plate. A prescribed range of the outside of the electrode 14 is coated with a glass layer having a high dielectric constant and a small dielectric loss. A grounded electrode 3 made of stainless steel pipe is coaxially placed around the tube 4, the inside of the electrode 3 is coated with a very thin soda glass layer, and the tapered end prts undergoing violet discharge are coated with enamel layers having a small dielectric loss. The electrode 3 is grounded through cooling water 20 injected into the tightly sealed space. Silent discharge is caused in the discharge gap 13 between the tube 4 and the electrode 3 to ozonize gaseous starting material.
