Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an electron lens having a small astigmatism and a small spherical aberration, increase the focusing degree of electron beams, and improve the resolving degree of a picture surface by providing three circular beam-passing holes in each of two box-like electrodes, which are opposed and form an electron lens, in an in-line arrangement so that the three holes are continuous. CONSTITUTION:Three circular holes (a) are provided in each of the opposed surfaces of a main-lens-side third grid 5 and a fourth grid 4, which face to one another so as to form an electron lens. The diameter of the above circular holes (a), which are connected to each other, is either equal to the distance between the holes (a) or larger than the distance between the holes (a). A cylindrical electrode 10 is provided with three independent circular holes (a) so that these holes (a) correspond to the above holes (a). Owing to the above constitution, the aperture of a main lens becomes close to that of the holes (a) of the opposed surfaces, and the angular symmetric property of the equipotential surface is relatively excellently secured by the cylinder electrode 10. Consequently, the electrostatic lens has a balanced astigmatism and a balanced spherical aberration.
