Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower the aberration of an electron gun and also to improve its resolution, by forming at least one of its electrodes different in length from remaining electrodes and also forming its main lens from a combination of a unipotential type lens and a bipotential type lens. CONSTITUTION:A main lens Lm is constituted by four electrodes P1-P4 arranged on a common axis. Among the electrodes, the electrodes P1, P4 are disposed respectively at the stem and face sides of a cathode ray tube. The electrodes P1, P3 are each connected to a high voltage source Ea, while the electrodes P2, P4 are each connected to a medium voltage source Eb. By such an arrangement, a unipotential type lens Lu is formed by the electrodes P1-P3 whereas a bipotential type lens Lb is constituted by the electrodes P3, P4. These two lenses form apparently a single large-diameter lens Lm. The electrode length (i.e., the length of an electrode portion which is parallel to the axis of a cathode tube) of the electrode P2 is made different from that of the electrode P4 to which the same voltage Eb is applied. Owing to the above constitution, it is possible to lower the aberration of the lens of an electron gun and simultaneously to improve its resolution.
