Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the coloring concentration by extending the area of an dielectric layer more than that of a display part and increasing the quantity of protons to be injected into the display part. CONSTITUTION:The 1st electrode 12 is formed on a transparent substrate 11, and an EC layer 13 and a dielectric layer 14 are formed on the 1st electrode layer successively. Finally, the 2nd electrode layer is formed on the dielectric layer 14. A display part 16 is defined by the overlapped part between the 1st and 2nd electrode layers and the area of the dielectric layer is made larger than that of the display part. Although the EC layer is overlapped with dielectric layer and both the areas are made even, the area of the EC layer is not defined. Protons are injected concentrically from the dielectric layer with the larger area than that of the display part defined by the 1st and 2nd electrodes to the display part layer (with smaller area than that of the dielectric layer) in the EC layer, increasing the quantity of proton injection per area and also increasing the coloring concentration.
