Abstract
PURPOSE: Readily available 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline is used as a starting material to produce diclofenac sodium, an anti-inflammatory analgesic, readily.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I, its alkali metal salt or its acid adduct is diazotized with a diazotizing agnet such as alkyl nitrite to form its diazonium salt, which is then reduced with a reducing agent such as formalin to give o(2,6-dichloroanilino)phenylacetic acid of formula II. The compound is diclofenac soium used as an anti-inflmmatory analgesic. The compound of formula I is prepared by using 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline of formula III, which is largely used as an intermediate of dyes, converting it through compounds IV and V into compound VI and hydrolyzing the compound VI. This process facilitates diphenylamination.
