Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a vinyl chloride polymer, preventing adhesion of a scale in polymerization, by the polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of an epoxysuccinic acid in an aqueous medium.
CONSTITUTION: Vinyl chloride is polymerized in an aqueous medium in the presence of an epoxysuccinic acid. The epoxysuccinic acid to be used is cis-epoxy-succinic acid, its salt or ester. The salt is preferably a salt of a metal such as an alkali metal, or an alkaline earth metal. The ester is preferably a 1W8C straight-chain or branched alkyl ester. Said epoxysuccinic acid, being effective as a stabilizer component for a vinyl chloride polymer, is also effective for improving the initial discoloration and heat stability of the vinyl chloride polymer obtained.
