Abstract
PURPOSE:Titled emulsion which is low in coarse particle content and excellent in adhesiveness and stability, prepared by emulsion-copolymerizing vinyl acetate, ethylene, an acid monomer and an acrylamide compound by a specified method. CONSTITUTION:An emulsion comprising an aqueous medium and a copolymer in which the weight ratio of vinyl acetate (b) to ethylene (a) is 60-95:40-5, and 0.5-7pts.wt. of an acid monomer (c) and 0.5-15pts.wt. of an acrylic compound are present per 100pts.wt. of vinyl acetate (b), is obtained by adding 20-80wt% of a predetermined amount, of vinyl acetate (b) to an aqueous medium in the presence of ethylene (a) and polymerizing the mixture to a polymerization degree of 5-50%, to form an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, then introducing and polymerizing a mixture consisting of the remaining portion of the vinyl acetate (b), an acid monomer (c), such as a 3-17C unsaturated carboxylic acid or its ester, and an acrylamide compound (d), represented by the formula: CH2=CHCONHCH2OR (R is a 1-10C alkyl).
