Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrically conductive core superior in the retainability of an active material, electric conductivity and mechanical strength and cheap in price by using as the electrically conductive core an iron fiber which is obtained by cutting and grinding steel material made of iron, nickel, mangan and carbon in a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:An iron fiber whose length and diameter are for example 0.5- 50mm. and 4-30mu respectively is obtained by cutting and grinding a steel material consisting of 99.74-85.50% of iron, 0.20-10.00% of nickel, 0.01-1.00% of manganese and 0.1-0.50% of carbon. This iron fiber is sintered in a H2 atomosphere at temperature of 900 deg.C for 30 minutes, thereby obtaining a sintered iron body of a porous degree of 95%. To the sintered iron body, nickel plating is performed so that it is used as an electrically conductive core for the plate of an alkali storage battery.
