Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely keep an exhasut valve closed for its shut-off period, by utilizing the opening action of an intake valve to increase the set load upon a valve spring on the side of the exhaust valve.
CONSTITUTION: When a closed intake valve 3 is opened as an exhasut valve 2 remains closed, a valve spring 4 on the side of the intake valve is compressed so that the load upon the spring is increased. As a result, a plunger 9 located at the ascent end is moved down at a prescribed stroke h1 so that oil in an oil pressure chamber 7 is pushed into another oil pressure chamber 6 at the side of the exhaust valve through a passage 10, another plunger at the side of the exhaust valve is pushed up at a prescribed stroke h2 to the ascent end and another valve spring 13 is automatically set under load larger than normal set load. According to this constitution, the shutting-off force on the exhaust valve 2 is heightened for the open period of the intake valve 3 to conveniently cause exhaust braking action.
