Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently operate a furnace by utilizing thermal energy radiated from high temp. rolled materials to preheat combustion air for the furnace or materials for rolling to be charged into the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Thermal energy radiated from rolled materials 10 on cooling bed 3 heats cooling air fed by blowers 9. This hot air is introduced into heating furnace 1 with hood 15 and blower 16 through piping 17. In furnace 1 combustion is carried out by allowing fuel and the hot air to spout out of nozzles 5, 6, respectively. The hot air is utilized not only to burn the fuel but also to preheat materials for rolling to be charged into the preheating chamber. Thus, the efficiency of the whole furnace 1 can be increased.
