Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a titled composition showing specific compatible behavior and forming a uniform film with excellent stability and good transparency prepd. from raw starch and polyvinyl alcohol modified with a long chain alkyl group.
CONSTITUTION: (a) Raw starch such as wheat starch or corn starch and (b) polyvinyl alcohol modified with a water-soluble long-chain alkyl group containing 0.05W 10mol% of 4W20C long-chain alkyl group such as α-olefin or alkyl vinyl ether are blended in such a range that a weight ratio of (a) component to (b) component is 99:1W1:99 to obtain an objective high polymer composition. This high polymer composition has good stability when it is allowed to stand in the form of an aqueous solution as compared with a mixture of raw starch and polyvinyl alcohol and a film prepared from an aqueous solution of said composition is uniform and has high transparency.
