Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the quality of an image on a photoelectric converter by forming light inserting regions having displaced phases on the first and second main surfaces of a thick transparent insulating substrate and thus preventing the expansion of an incident light projected to an original due to the scattering of the incident light. CONSTITUTION:The light beam 10 emitted from a light source 2 is irradiated through light inserting regions 15', 15 to the original 1, the light reflected from the original is collected by a photodetector 8 and photoelectrically converted. In this case the light emitted from the light source 2 is throttled first via an opaque film 11', only the light passed through the region 15 propagates in the substrate 7, is throttled via an opaque film 11 at the outlet of the substrate 7, and only the light passed through the region 15 is directed toward the original 1.
