Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the excellent performance of orientation by providing an organic orientation coating over the entire surface of an electrode substrate provided with a frame of low-fusion-point glass sealing material at the part that corresponds to a circumferential sealed part, and by performing a sealing process after removing the organic orientation coating on the surface equivalent to the sealed part in the plasma ashing method. CONSTITUTION:At the circumferential sealed-part equivalent part of the electrode substrate, a sealing frame is formed by using low-fusion-point glass frit of >=350 deg.C in fusion sealing temperature and over the entire surface of the electrode substrate, an organic orientation coating film made of an organic orienting agent (e.g., polysulfone, polyimide, etc.) with heat resistance of >=about 400 deg.C is formed covering the frame. Next, only the organic orientation coating that corresponds to said sealing frame part is removed via a masking material by plasma ashing (using gas containing oxygen). Next, a couple of electrode substrates treated as mentioned above are combined in the usual way and the sealing material is fused to seal both electrode substrates.
