Abstract

PURPOSE: To very easily raise the velocity of filtration and the percentage of dehydration, by adding hydrogen peroxide to organic sludge in the presence of iron ions and then heating the sludge at 60W100°C for 10W60 minutes.
CONSTITUTION: An iron salt such as ferrous sulfate or ferric chloride is added at the rate of 5000W15000ppm to waste water which contains organic sludge. Hydrogen peroxide is then added at the rate of 1000W3000ppm to the waste water in the presence of iron ions from the iron salt. The waste water is heated at 60W 100°C for 10W60 minutes. The pH level of the waste water is thereafter adjusted if necessary. If the molar ratio of FeSO4WH2O2 is about 0.8W1.2, the H2O2 reacts well with the iron ions to serve as a strong oxidizer. The velocity of the reaction is raised by the heating. As a result, protein is solidified, the filtering property is improved and the water content of dehydrated cakes is greatly reduced.
