Abstract

PURPOSE: To lessen toxicity of cationic coagulant by adding an anionic polymer or an organic acid salt to water to be treated by a cationic coagulant produced in mining operations.
CONSTITUTION: An anionic polymer [e.g., sodium poly(metha)acrylate], an organic acid salt (e.g., the isopropylamine salt of alkylbenzenesulfonic acid, sodium lignosulfonate, dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate, etc.), or mixture of these is added to water produced by the treatment of red water with a cationic coagulant. By this method, the treatment of treated water containing 0.1W1000ppm of residual cationic coagulant can be made possible.
