Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a compact fluorescent lamp with high emission efficiency which elminates the release of a phosphor, its brightness ununiformity, and the restriction of its shape by enclosing a ultraviolet emitting tube in which a thin structure solid is filled and providing an outer tube with the phosphor layer on its inside surface.
CONSTITUTION: A coaxial duplicated straight tube is formed and the electrodes 7 and 7' are provided on both ends of the inner tube 6. The thin structure solid 8 such as quartz glass fiber is filled in the inner tube 6. The phosphor 10 is also coated on the inside surface of the outer tube 9 and both ends of the inner and outer tubes 6 and 9 are retained by the caps 11 and 11'. By applying voltage to the electrodes 7 and 7' of the inner tube 6, low pressure gas is discharged using mercury and the ultraviolet rays at a wavelength of 254nm are generated. The material of the inner tube 6 completely makes ultraviolet rays permeate through. The thin structure solid 8 hardly absorbs ultraviolet rays. These utltraviolet rays are irradiated on the phosphor 10 of the outer tube 9 and generate fluorescence.
