Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the mechanical strength and workability of a platinum alloy for working accessories by adding a restricted amt. of Co, etc. to platinum.
CONSTITUTION: A platinum alloy consisting of Co 1W15wt% and the balance platinum. Y 0.01W3% may be contained in the alloy. This alloy has enhanced mechanical strength without lowering the workability since the restricted amt. of Co is contained. The addn. of the restricted amt. of Y prevents the alloy grains from coarsening at a high temp. in soldering or other process, thereby preventing the mechanical strength from lowering. This alloy is used as a material for working a ring, a necklace, a tie pin, etc.
