Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of mold exchange operation and intend to simplify the facility, by attaching a spacer possessing a runner to mount a mold which corresponds to the sectional area or diameter of the casting slab to be cast to the tundish perliminarily forming a runner of the maximum sectional area or diameter of the casting slab to be cast. CONSTITUTION:A runner X' is provided by matching with the cast of the maximum sectional area or diameter to be cast in a tundish 1. A water-cooled jacket 6 having a spacer 9 fitted in the non-cooled part of a graphite mold 5 is provided in this runner X'. This spacer 9 possesses a runner Y corresponding to the mold 5. The water-cooled jackets 6 should be prepared in the same sizes, shapes, kinds, and quantity as the casting slab to be continuously cast in the tundish 1. When exchanging the molds, since the runner X' is large and short, residual hot metal or slag will never deposit, saving the trouble of removing such deposit or repairing. Thus, the mold exchange efficiency may be increased, and the facility cost may be reduced.
