Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high quality LiTaO3 single crystal in a high yield by growing a single crystal in an atmosphere of inert gas mixed with a little oxygen using a platinum-rhodium alloy crucible to reduce formation of cracks.
CONSTITUTION: A LiTaO3 sintered body is placed in a platinum-rhodium alloy crucible and heat-melted in an atmosphere of N2 gas mixed with 0.2W10% O2. By rotating a LiTaO3 chip crystal a LiTaO3 single crystal is pulled from the melt. Formation of cracks can considerably be reduced as compared to the case of growth in a N2 gas atmosphere, and by raising the yield the production cost can be reduced.
