Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate errors due to the thickness of a measured object and the fluctuation in the moving direction of the object, by conducting light reflected on the measured object separately to thin transparent plates juxtaposed with one another in the moving direction of the object.
CONSTITUTION: The front ends of the transparent thin plates 1.1W1.n are formed as objective lenses. The rear ends of the plates are made oblique at an angle of 45° to the optical axes of the objective lenses and coupled to light detectors. The outputs of alternate ones of the even-numbered thin transparent plates are differentially synthesized with one another. The outputs of alternate ones of the odd-numbered thin transparent plates are also differentially synthesized with one another. The lead or delay in the phase of one of the differential synthesis outputs is detected to determine the moving direction of the measured object 3. The speed of the object is determined from the central frequency of one of the synthesis outputs.
