Abstract

PURPOSE:To guarantee positional precision of multicore optical fiber and guide of splicer, by securing a pair of alignment substrates forming plural V-grooves on a base so that V-grooves may be placed on a straight line respectively, positioning multicore optical fibers after removal of coating into V-grooves, and fastening with an elastic body provided on a holding plate. CONSTITUTION:For example, V-grooves 2 for aligning multicore optical fibers and V-grooves 3 for aligning splicer guide are formed on an Si wafer substrate 1 by chemical etching. A pair of alignment substrate 7 are secured on a flat base 8 so that respective V-grooves 2, 3 may be arranged on a straight line. On a holding plate 12 is secured an elastic body 13 for pressing and holding the multicore optical fibers 4 and a splicer guide 5 having a precision hole 6 on the alignment substrate 7, and it is fastened to the base 8 with screws 14. The optical fibers 4 after removal of coating and the guide 5 are inserted into insert holes 15, 16, and set in the V- grooves, and secured by the elastic body 13 under pressure. Therefore, the positional precision of the multicore optical fibers and splicer guide may be guaranteed by easy manipulation, and the device may be mass-produced at low cost.
