Abstract
PURPOSE: The title composition useful as an agricultural film, capable of absorbing infrared rays of wide wave length, not causing whitening, and having improved water resistance, obtained by adding phosphate glass powder as an infrared light absorber to a transparent synthetic resin.
CONSTITUTION: 2.0W25wt% of phosphate glass powder, preferably finely divided particles having diameters not more than 10μ, is added to a transparent resin, e.g., polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride, etc. The addition of 1W60mol% of an alkaline (earth) metal oxide to the phosphate glass consisting mainly of P2O5 can adjust the melting point and refractive index of the resin, and the addition of aluminum oxide, boron oxide, and titanium oxide strengthen the glass and enlarge an infrared light absorption width. The surface treatment of the glass powder with paraffin, fatty acid, etc. improves its dispersibility into the resin, increases the interfacial adhesiveness to the resin, and raises tensile strength, etc.
