Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible simple and highly accurate fiber connection by using a plug and fitting sleeve which are so molded as to have key grooves or protrusions in the axial direction along the array of the spherical or circular cylindrical bodies encircling optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Rods 5 and balls 4 of an equal diameter are closely contacted and arrayed in a cylindrical die and optical fibers 1 are set in the spacings between them, after which molten plastics is flowed into the die and is set, after which the molding is removed from the die. Thence, the plastic portions across the two rods are removed at one or two places, by which key ways 7 are provided to form a connector plug 2. On the other hand, the fitting sleeve has guide pins 8 on the inside circumference of a sleeve 9 in circular sectional shape which are so formed as to fit into the key ways 7. The use of the highly dimensionally accurate and readily available rods and steel balls in this way permits the simple and inexpensive connection of the optical fibers of high accuracy.
