Abstract

PURPOSE: To be able to supply a stable output voltage despite current fluctuation, by providing circuits to detect an overcurrent larger than a reference current, change an output depending on the level of the overcurrent and alter the turn-on duty cycle of a switch.
CONSTITUTION: An overcurrent detector 12 detects a load current IP larger than a reference current IREF and supplies the load current to an overcurrent amplifier 30. The output of the amplifier is decreased below that of a difference amplifier 21 when the detected load current is larger than the reference current. A pulse width modulation circuit 22 produces such pulses as to reduce the duty cycle of a switch 11 and supplies the pulses to a pulse driving circuit 23. The turn-on duty cycle of the switch 11 is reduced depending on a driving signal from the driving circuit 23 so that the supply period of an input voltage Vi is shortened and the current of a switching regulator is decreased. Therefore, the current does not rise above a limit.
