Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the measurement of eccentricity independently of rotational frequency, by calculating the eccentricity from the difference and sum of the envelopes of the outputs of two electromagnetic pickup units facing each other across a gear secured on a rotary shaft.
CONSTITUTION: Electromagnetic pickup units 1, 2 are so placed that they face each other across a gear 4 secured on a rotary shaft 3. Each pickup unit sends out a periodical voltage output (a) whose amplitude is proportional to the rotational frequency of the gear 4 and inversely proportional to the l-th power of the gap between the gear 4 and the pickup unit. The output (a) are changed into envelope output (b) by envelope conversion circuits 5, 6. The ratio of the difference between the envelope outputs to their sum is determined by a calculation circuit 7 and picked out. The output (y) of the circuit 7 is calculated according to a formula (1) where (C) denotes the sum of the gaps between the gear 4 and the pickup units 1, 2 and (x) denotes the eccentricity of the gear 4. The eccentricity of the gear 4 can thus be measured independently of its rotational frequency.
