Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain very high accurate correction of a meander by detecting the meander of a strip on a looper car, and controlling a roll so as to immediately correct this meander. CONSTITUTION:A detecting device 11 for detecting a meander of a metal strip 3 is provided on a looper car of a looper device. In this detecting device 11, light emitting and receiving parts 12, 13 of a phototube are arranged with the metal strip 3 interposed relating to upper and lower surfaces thereof to detect an amount of intercepting light by the metal strip 3 and the meander. This detecting device 11 is provided in a position in the vicinity of a roll 21. In an oscillating device 30, a rod is connected to a point end of a flange of a frame 23 in squared shape with one side open to constitute a main unit of a hydraulic cylinder device mounted to the looper car. This hydraulic cylinder device is actuated so as to negate the meander of the metal strip 3 by a signal from the meander detecting device 11. A control unit for the above action is mounted onto the looper car. In this way, high accurate meander correction can be attained.
