Description
第1基板と、
前記第1基板に対向し、前記第1基板よりも観察者側に位置する第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に設けられた液晶層と、
を備え、
複数の行および複数の列を含むマトリクス状に配列された複数の画素を有し、
前記液晶層に電圧が印加されていないときに液晶分子が垂直配向状態をとり、前記液晶層に所定の電圧が印加されたときに液晶分子がねじれ配向状態をとる、ねじれ垂直配向モードで表示を行う液晶表示装置であって、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれは、反射モードで表示を行う反射領域を含み、
前記第1基板は、前記反射領域内に位置する部分を含む反射電極と、前記液晶層側の表面に位置する第1垂直配向膜とを有し、
前記第2基板は、前記液晶層側の表面に位置する第2垂直配向膜を有し、
前記液晶層は、負の誘電異方性を有する液晶材料と、カイラル剤とを含み、
前記反射電極は、銀または銀合金から形成されており、
前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜の少なくとも一方は、光に対する反応波長を少なくとも313nmに有する配向膜材料から形成された光配向膜であり、
前記反射領域は、液晶分子の基準配向方位が互いに異なる複数の液晶ドメインを有する、液晶表示装置。
前記複数の画素のそれぞれは、透過モードで表示を行う透過領域をさらに含み、
前記透過領域は、液晶分子の基準配向方位が互いに異なる複数のさらなる液晶ドメインを有する、項目1に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜のうちの一方の垂直配向膜にのみ光配向処理が施されており、
光配向処理が施されている前記一方の垂直配向膜は、前記複数の画素のそれぞれにおいて、互いに異なるプレチルト方位を規定する複数の領域を有する、項目1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜のうちの前記第1垂直配向膜にのみ光配向処理が施されている、項目3に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記第2基板は、ブラックマトリクスを有していない、項目4に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記第1基板は、前記反射電極上に形成された透明導電層をさらに有する、項目1から5のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
前記透明導電層層は、インジウム錫酸化物から形成されており、
前記透明導電層の厚さは、0.04nm以上12.28nm以下である、項目6に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記透明導電層の厚さは、1.99nm以上9.64nm以下である、項目7に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記透明導電層層は、インジウム亜鉛酸化物から形成されており、
前記透明導電層の厚さは、0.04nm以上12.74nm以下である、項目6に記載の液晶表示装置。
前記透明導電層の厚さは、2.02nm以上10.11nm以下である、項目9に記載の液晶表示装置。
少なくとも前記液晶層を介して互いに対向する一対の円偏光板をさらに備え、
前記一対の円偏光板のそれぞれは、逆波長分散特性を有するλ/4板を含む、項目1から10のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
前記反射電極は、凹凸表面構造を有し、
前記第1基板は、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれに設けられた薄膜トランジスタと、
前記反射電極を覆う有機絶縁層と、
前記有機絶縁層上に設けられ、透明導電材料から形成された透明電極であって、前記薄膜トランジスタに電気的に接続された透明電極と、
をさらに有する、項目1から11のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
図1を参照しながら、本実施形態における液晶表示装置100を説明する。図1は、液晶表示装置100の概略構成を示す平面図である。
図16を参照しながら、本実施形態における液晶表示装置200を説明する。図16は、液晶表示装置200を模式的に示す平面図である。以下では、液晶表示装置200が実施形態1の液晶表示装置100と異なる点を中心に説明を行う。液晶表示装置200の構成要素のうち、液晶表示装置100の構成要素と同じ機能を有する構成要素には同じ参照符号を付し、その説明を省略する(以降の実施形態においても同様である)。
図25を参照しながら、本実施形態における液晶表示装置300を説明する。図25は、液晶表示装置300を模式的に示す平面図である。
図29を参照しながら、本実施形態における液晶表示装置400を説明する。図29は、液晶表示装置400を模式的に示す平面図である。
図33を参照しながら、本実施形態における液晶表示装置500を説明する。図33は、液晶表示装置500を模式的に示す平面図である。以下では、液晶表示装置500が実施形態4の液晶表示装置400と異なる点を中心に説明を行う。

図42に、画素電極PEの構造の好ましい例を示す。図42に示す例では、TFT基板10は、反射電極REを覆う有機絶縁層(平坦化層)16と、有機絶縁層16上に設けられたさらなる透明電極TE’とを有する。以下では、有機絶縁層16の下に位置する透明電極TEを「第1透明電極」と呼び、有機絶縁層16の上に位置する透明電極TE’を「第2透明電極」と呼ぶ。

- 第1基板と、
前記第1基板に対向し、前記第1基板よりも観察者側に位置する第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に設けられた液晶層と、
を備え、
複数の行および複数の列を含むマトリクス状に配列された複数の画素を有し、
前記液晶層に電圧が印加されていないときに液晶分子が垂直配向状態をとり、前記液晶層に所定の電圧が印加されたときに液晶分子がねじれ配向状態をとる、ねじれ垂直配向モードで表示を行う液晶表示装置であって、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれは、反射モードで表示を行う反射領域を含み、
前記第1基板は、前記反射領域内に位置する部分を含む反射電極と、前記液晶層側の表面に位置する第1垂直配向膜とを有し、
前記第2基板は、前記液晶層側の表面に位置する第2垂直配向膜を有し、
前記液晶層は、負の誘電異方性を有する液晶材料と、カイラル剤とを含み、
前記反射電極は、銀または銀合金から形成されており、
前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜の少なくとも一方は、光に対する反応波長を少なくとも313nmに有する配向膜材料から形成された光配向膜であり、
前記反射領域は、液晶分子の基準配向方位が互いに異なる複数の液晶ドメインを有し、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれは、透過モードで表示を行う透過領域をさらに含み、
前記透過領域は、液晶分子の基準配向方位が互いに異なる複数のさらなる液晶ドメインを有し、
前記反射電極は、凹凸表面構造を有し、
前記第1基板は、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれに設けられた薄膜トランジスタと、
前記反射電極を覆う有機絶縁層と、
前記有機絶縁層上に設けられ、透明導電材料から形成された透明電極であって、前記薄膜トランジスタに電気的に接続された透明電極と、
をさらに有し、
前記反射電極は、前記薄膜トランジスタに電気的に接続されている、液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜のうちの一方の垂直配向膜にのみ光配向処理が施されており、
光配向処理が施されている前記一方の垂直配向膜は、前記複数の画素のそれぞれにおいて、互いに異なるプレチルト方位を規定する複数の領域を有する、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1垂直配向膜および前記第2垂直配向膜のうちの前記第1垂直配向膜にのみ光配向処理が施されている、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2基板は、ブラックマトリクスを有していない、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板は、前記反射電極上に形成された透明導電層をさらに有する、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記透明導電層は、インジウム錫酸化物から形成されており、
前記透明導電層の厚さは、0.04nm以上12.28nm以下である、請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記透明導電層の厚さは、1.99nm以上9.64nm以下である、請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記透明導電層は、インジウム亜鉛酸化物から形成されており、
前記透明導電層の厚さは、0.04nm以上12.74nm以下である、請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記透明導電層の厚さは、2.02nm以上10.11nm以下である、請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 少なくとも前記液晶層を介して互いに対向する一対の円偏光板をさらに備え、
前記一対の円偏光板のそれぞれは、逆波長分散特性を有するλ/4板を含む、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
