活物質として放電容量が大きく粒径が約4μm以下のSiの粉末を用いた。Si粉末は他の活物質と比較してその放電容量は優れているが、その粒子の膨張によって集電体から剥離しやすく、また充放電による体積膨張によって活物質が微粉化して脱落し、サイクル試験時に放電容量が急激に低下する。
上記した電極を評価極とし、金属リチウムを対極として、1モルのLiPF6/エチレンカ−ボネ−ト(EC)+ジエチルカ−ボネ−ト(DEC)(EC:DEC=1:1(体積比))溶液を電解液として、ドライルーム内でコイン型モデル電池(CR2032タイプ)を作製した。コイン型モデル電池は、スペーサー、対極となる厚み500μmのLi箔、セパレーター(セルガード社製 商標名Celgard #2400)、及び評価極を順に重ね、かしめ加工して作製した。
このモデル電池における評価極の評価を次の方法で行った。

- 前記アルコキシシリル基含有樹脂は、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ノボラック型エポキシ樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性アクリル樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性フェノール樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリアミック酸樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性可溶性ポリイミド樹脂、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリウレタン樹脂或いはアルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリアミドイミド樹脂である請求項1に記載の二次電池用電極。
- 集電体の表面にバインダーを介して活物質を固定させた二次電池用電極において
前記バインダーは式(II):R1mSiO(4−m)/2(m=0〜2の整数、R1は炭素数8以下のアルキル基を示す)で示される構造を有するアルコキシシリル基含有樹脂硬化物であることを特徴とする二次電池用電極。 - 前記アルコキシシリル基含有樹脂硬化物は、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ビスフェノールA型エポキシ樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ノボラック型エポキシ樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性アクリル樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性フェノール樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリイミド樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性可溶性ポリイミド樹脂硬化物、アルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリウレタン樹脂硬化物或いはアルコキシ基含有シラン変性ポリアミドイミド樹脂硬化物である請求項3に記載の二次電池用電極。

前記活物質はリチウムと合金化可能な金属又は金属酸化物を含む、負極用の二次電池用電極である請求項5に記載の二次電池用電極。 - 前記リチウムと合金化可能な金属または金属酸化物は、Siかつ/またはSnを含む請求項6に記載の二次電池用電極。
