Description
図1は本発明に係る表示装置の構成図である。表示装置100は、カラー表示面を有した面放電AC型のプラズマディスプレイパネル(PDP)1と、セルの発光を制御するドライブユニット70とから構成されており、壁掛け式テレビジョン受像機、コンピュータシステムのモニターなどとして利用される。
〔第2実施形態〕
第2実施形態に係る表示装置の構成はコントローラ71の機能の差異を除いて図1の構成と同様であり、フレーム構成も図2の構成と同様である。また、第2実施形態においても、サブフレームごとに壁電荷の初期化、アドレッシング、および点灯維持が行われる。ここでは、第1実施形態と共通する事項についての詳しい説明を省略する。
これにより{ s(αi , βi) , p(αi , βi) }が決まる。
P=Pmaxにすると、(2)式および(4)式に従って、
T が Tmax以下であればよい。
T>Tmaxの場合は、輝度の相対比を保つようにフレームの表示パルス数をT=Tmaxになるまで減らす。減らした後のパルス数をfi'、輝度をL',電力をP'とすると、

Claims (4)
- アドレス期間において画面のうちの点灯すべきセルに壁電荷を形成し、表示期間において前記壁電荷が形成されたセルにて放電を生じさせる表示パルスを前記画面のセルに印加するプラズフデイスプレイパネルの駆動方法であって、
フレームを第1のサブフレームと前記第1のサブフレームよりも重み付けの大きい第2のサブフレームとを含む複数のサブフレームに変換し、
前記サブフレームのそれぞれについて、セル数に対する点灯すべきセルの数の割合である表示率を検出し、
前記第1のサブフレームにおいては、所定の表示率に対して1つの表示パルス波形が対応付けられ、前記第2のサブフレームにおいては、所定の表示率に対して複数種の表示パルス波形が対応付けられた表示率と表示パルス波形との対応付けに従って、前記第1のサブフレームにおいては対応づけられた1つの表示パルス波形を当該サブフレームの表示パルスとして印加し、
前記第2のサブフレームにおいては、各サブフレームの表示率、各サブフレーム間の輝度の相対比、1フレームでの表示期間の上限値、及び消費電力の上限値に基づいて、前記複数種の表示パルス波形から選択した1つの表示パルス波形を当該サブフレームの表示パルスとして印加することを特徴とするプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記複数種の表示パルス波形は、後縁の振幅が前縁の振幅より大きい第1の階段波形と、前縁の振幅が後縁の振幅より大きい第2の階段波形の2つの波形であって、
前記第1及び第2のサブフレーム共に、表示率が予め定めた第1の値以上のサブフレームにおいては、前記第1の階段波形をもつパルスを当該サブフレームの表示パルスとして印加することを特徴とする請求項1記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記第1及び第2のサブフレーム共に、表示率が前記第1の値より小さい予め定めた第2の値未満のサブフレームにおいては、前記第2の階段波形をもつパルスを当該サブフレームの表示パルスとして印加する請求項2記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記第1の階段波形および第2の階段波形のそれぞれは2つのステップをもち、前記第1の階段波形の一方のステップの振幅が前記第2の階段波形の一方のステップの振幅と等しく、かつ前記第1の階段波形の他方のステップの振幅が前記第2の階段波形の他方のステップの振幅と等しい請求項3記載のプラズマディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
