上述したように従来にあっては、下廻り部品についてはオーバヘッドコンベアによって車体を吊下げた状態で行っている。しかしながら、オーバヘッドコンベアとスラットコンベアとの間で車体を移し替えるには大掛かりな移載装置が必要となり、コストアップになるだけでなく、大掛かりな移載装置の分だけラインが長くなり、占有面積も大となる。
また、オーバヘッドコンベアの場合は、天井にレールを敷設しなければならず、しかも車体重量を支えることができる構造が要求される。

上記課題を解決すべく本発明は、上流側から台車で搬送されてきた車体に下廻り部品を組付けた後に下流側へ送り出す車体下廻り部品の組付装置として、リフト装置と移送装置とを具備し、前記リフト装置は搬入位置で台車から車体を受け取ってそのまま組付作業位置まで上昇せしめ、前記移送装置は車体を下から支えた状態で搬入位置と搬出位置との間を往復動するとともに下降することでスラットコンベアに車体を受け渡す構成とした。
