Abstract

994,563. Latches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 9, 1964 [April 16, 1963], No. 14654/64. Heading E2A. A vehicle door latch comprises a latch frame 24, 28, a bolt 38 mounted for angular movement on the frame between latched and unlatched positions, a detent 68 for holding the bolt in latched position, an operator lever 92 movably mounted in the frame, a link 98 coupled to an operator lever and operating to release the detent 68 upon movement of the operator lever 92, and an auxiliary lever 128 pivotally connected between the operator lever and the latch frame and engageable by an outside operator member to operate the operator lever 92. As shown, in which the bolt 38 is engageable with a shank 48 of a headed striker pin 50 and is retained in latching engagement herewith by the detent 68, the latter is movable to release the bolt 38, by the outside operator lever 95 connected to the detent lever 68 through the link 98, the lever 92 being actuated by an outside push button acting through a stem 142 on a portion 140 of the lever 138 pivotally connected to a latch plate portion 132, and to the lever 92. The bolt is also releasable by an inside handle operating on a lever 158 and pivoted at 162 and having one leg overlying a foot 82 of the lever 68. A locking lever 112, pivoted on the latch plate at 114 has a tab and slot connection 110, 108. with the link 98 and is operated by a garnish button through a rod 120 or by an outside lock 373 through a member 124 straddling a tab 126. The lever 112 is held in either of its two positions by an overcentre spring 118. The head of the striker pin 50, which is positioned adjacent the inner face of the bolt in the latched position thereof to constitute an "anti-burst" feeding, also engages a spring-loaded nylon shoe 52, to prevent door rattle.
