Abstract

952,016. Collapsible cartons. PURNELL & SONS Ltd. Jan. 25, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 20160/62. Heading B8P. In a collapsible carton blank having a base panel 1 from which extend side wall panels 2 with extensions 4 and end wall panels 3 with extensions 7 and 10, the walls being joined by a diagonally creased gusset web 11, a tongue 13 is cut in the gusset web extending from each diagonal crease line 12 towards the adjacent side wall. Glue is applied in an unbroken straight line 14a no wider than the width of the tongue along the side walls, tongue, and part of the gusset web from which the tongue extends. To form the carton the extensions 4 are folded to adhere to the inside of side walls 2 and the resulting double thickness folded about crease line 6 so that the coated portion of the gusset adheres to the end wall 3. The side and end walls are then erected and the extension 7 folded down to enclose the gusset, the extension 10 lying on the base panel.
