Abstract
948,793. Vehicle spring suspensions. LARKIN FORGE Ltd. Jan. 4, 1962 [Jan. 4, 1961], No. 386/61. Heading B7D. [Also in Division F2] In a suspension system, e.g. for heavy goods vehicles, one end of a laminated leaf spring 1 is hinged at 3 to a vehicle chassis 2, the other end being hinged at 4 to a swingable member 5 which is pivoted at 6 to the chassis 2 and which is formed, between the two hinge points 4, 6, with a bearing surface 13 for engaging the upper surface of the spring the surface 13 being shaped so as to reduce the effective length of the spring 1 as the vehicle is loaded. The swingable member 5 comprises a pair of side plates 12 between which is supported the bearing surface 13, the spring 1 being attached to the hinge pins 3, 4 by upward scrolling of the two uppermost laminations. In a modification, the spring ends are scrolled downwardly. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the hinge point 6 of the swingable member 5 is below the plane of the spring 1 in order to allow for an upward arching of the spring under full load.
