Abstract

918,243. Laminates. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Oct. 21, 1960 [Nov. 4, 1959; March 2, 1960], Nos. 37367/59 and 7311/60. Class 140. A conveyer belt comprises a carcass having two or more superimposed fabric plies impregnated with a flexible plastic, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chlorides and edge strips at the longitudinal edges of the carcass, wherein the longitudinal edges of the carcass plies are in stacked relationship and each edge strip comprises a strip of flexible thermo-mouldable plastic and has one or more integral tongues extending between adjacent carcass plies, the plastic being rendered substantially continuous throughout all the components. Fig. 1 shows a conveyer belt with edge strip 3 having a tongue 4, the breadth of the strip being greater than its thickness. Fig. 2 shows an edge strip 3 having tongue 4 with a fabric 5, 6 covering the edge strip and the tongue. Fig. 3 shows an edge strip 7, the tongue in this modification being formed by the fabric 5, 6. Alternatively, the tongues may extend throughout the belt and meet so as to form a continuous layer. The plies are consolidated by means of heat and pressure. The fabric about the edge strip may have an open weave, and may comprise nylon or polyethylene, and be woven from thread spun from staple fibres.
