Abstract

A thermoplastic mount is attached to a hypodermic needle by heating the needle inductively until the thermoplastic material in contact with the needle is melted and welds itself on to the metal. Suitable materials for the mount are polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and nylon and this is made a close fit on the metal cannula and, after being positioned, the combination is placed within the output coil of an inductive heating appliance. This causes the metal to be heated until the plastic adjacent to it has melted, so that it flows into contact with the cannula and, when cooled, securely bonds the two together.
