Abstract

915,065. Pipe joints. CHIKSAN CO. Sept. 26, 1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No. 34386/61. Class 99(1). A swivel joint for interconnecting two pipes comprises a bearing housing 22, a bearing assembly 32 having inner and outer races 34, 30 a tubular member 16 having a circumferential groove 38 slidably mounted within the inner race 34, and a bearing assembly retainer 36 which is removable from the groove 38. The bearing assembly may be removed from the tubular member 16 by sliding off the end thereof when the retainer is removed from the groove. As shown, the housing 22 is secured to a flange 14 on a tubular member 12 by means of bolts 46 which also retain in place a bearing retaining ring 44. A flat disc 52 is interposed between the housing 22 and the flange 14, the outer radial portion of which acts as a static seal and the inner radial portion is pressed into sliding engagement with the end face 54 of the tubular member 16 by a spring pressed follower ring 56 to form a dynamic seal. An annular grease retainer 50 is provided and the retainer 36 is in the form of arcuate sections.
