Abstract

897,717. Flexible hoses. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. March 17, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 9787/61. Class 99(2). In a hose, e.g. for vacuum cleaners, including a hollow tubular body 16 of flexible material, a stretchable electric conductor 22 extends substantially parallel to the axis of the body and is secured to the body at closely spaced points, the conductor being elongated prior to being secured sufficiently so that when the hose is bent with the conductor on the inside of the bend the conductor contracts and remains substantially parallel to the said axis. As shown, the hose comprises a rubber-impregnated body 16, and an internal wire spiral secured to the inner surface of the body; a cord 20 serves to hold the conductor in place, and there is provided an outer braided cover 24. In modifications, the conductor is disposed between (a) the overlapping longitudinal edges of the fabric forming the hose body, (b) the spiral and the body, and (c) an inner and outer tubular member of synthetic plastic material. The conductor terminates in electrical connection fittings 26, 28.
