Abstract
An apparatus for carrying out chemical reactions between pulverulent or granular solids and gases is a vertically arranged heat-insulated reaction vessel 11 having cylindrical upper portion, tapering coaxial intermediate portion connected to lower coaxial cylindrical portion, an inwardly projecting axially aligned cone 20b at the base, a gas inlet 12 in the lower portion <PICT:0895991/III/1> below the cone apex, a solid outlet 13 in the intermediate portion, a gas outlet 15 and solid inlet 16 at the top, and a gas circulation pipe 17 provided with a circulating fan 18 and a mixer 19 for feeding reaction gas into the circulation pipe. A heater pipe 22 and by-pass pipe 26 may be provided in the circulating pipe, and a solid separator 33 may be provided in the gas outlet. The apparatus may be used for treating carbon black by the process of Specification 895,990.
